After a week of playing with my new Skypephone I thought it would
be nice to download iSkoot to my BlackBerry as well. Free and
professional - the iSkoot software allows you to use Skype on a variety
of platforms including of course the amazing Skypephone. I had iSkoot
installed and running sweetly on my BlackBerry 8800 within minutes. I'm
really enjoying iSkoot in particular and Skype in general, which is my
favourite instant messenger as well as amazing for free calls.

The great thing about an "All you can eat" data plan
is access to data heavy applications like Skype. The integration on the
Skypephone with thousands of free Skype minutes whenever you top up the
phone is just a great reason to chat for hours using Skype. Thankfully
I'm finding the S2 battery life is brilliant too.

I picked up the new 3
Skypephone S2 from my local 3 Shop today. I've been really impressed
with how useable the slim buttons are for typing - even with my thick
fingers. The general finish is excellent... professional rubber for the
front and sides with shiny stainless steel on the back and a very good
quality keyboard and screen. Opening the Skypephone's box I was
reminded of the last iPod that I bought - excellent packaging and very
professional. Both are made in China and perhaps even in the same area -
who knows.

The S2 has a good little 3.2MB camera which is a nice
upgrade from the S1's 2MB camera and makes the S2 my current camera
phone of choice. Its a pity the iPhone doesn't have 3.2 or better and
I'm hoping that the BlackBerry 9500 (Thunder) comes with something
special in terms of the camera.

For me the best part of a 3 phone is the software
integration. Planet Three gives you access to news, updates, sports etc
all in a really well thought out mobile web page that makes the
offerings from BlackBerry look extremely humble and primitive. Access to
"My 3" for account information is quick, painless and impressive. You've
got to hand it to 3. The S2 has a nice quick bar allowing you to jump to
Skype (by iSkoot), MSN Messenger, Facebook, Google as well as a "Quick
Links" option which opens up a "Favourites" style page. I also really
like having decent Java games on the phone and found it easy (and good
value) to buy some games from the EA store link.
